Neighborhood Crime Watch

This is just one of the many ways the Sans Souci Community can come together with our concerns as well as solutions. Come here to get information on our crime statistics and ways that we are attempting to keep crime to a minimum in our community.

Unfortunately, even with all our efforts, some crime will take place within our community. Our neighborhood Crime Watch Program is a good start at keeping this crime to minimum.

As a resident, there are things you can do to help. First,
don't leave yourself or your home vunerable to being a victim. Secure your premises when you leave, keep shrubs cut back so there is no place for an intruder to hide and don't leave valuables in your vehicles.

If you see suspicious activity or people in our community, report it to the authorties. If, after all precautions, you do find yourself a victim of crime, make a police report.

There are two coordinators in our community with regard to the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program.

If you live East of Dean Road- report any crime activity or concerns to Larry Cook 805-1551

If you live West of Dean Road- report any crime activity or concerns to Richard Potter 737-1312

These reports will in turn be presented at the monthly SHADCO meeting. If a pattern of crime establishes itself within our community via these reports, we can then request increased patrol in our area.

It will take cooperation from all residents to make this a successful program. We ask everyone to do their part.
  • Recent Crime Stats for last month
During our Quarterly Combined Zone 3 ShAdCo Meeting, Assistant Chief Lonnie McDonnell gave the following information on crime:
All Crime was down 12% for Zone 3 ( Our area)
There have been 14 accidents in the zone for the year of which only 1 was alcohol (DUI) related.
Car Burglarys are up by 30% but 33% of those were because of unlocked cars.
The police are seeing a renewal of a crime called 'Flagging'. This is where a mail box has the 'flag' in the up position indicating to the mail man that they have a pickup at that location. Criminals drive down a street and see the flags and are removing any mail in the box before the mailman arrives. If there are checks or sensitive information it is now in the hands of the bad guys. Although this happens mostely around holidays and major game days where the mail may sit in the box for an extra day or two it is still happening more frequent.
If you suspect internet fraud you can contact ic3.gov for assistance.
  • What is SHADCO?
SHADCO is the Sheriff's Advisory Council. It is a partnership between Law Enforcement and the Community. It illustrates Jacksonville's commitment to community policing.

This strategic alliance provides a structural opportunity for developing mutual trust and understanding. Founded in 1995, SHADCO has been an enormous success for the city of Jacksonville. The city is broken into Zones and each Zone meets once a month to discuss issues pertaining to their area of the city and plan solutions.
